This Aurora Photo Is the Most Insane I’ve Ever Seen

by  • October 2, 2010 • Did You See This?

By far, this is the most spectacular and insane photography of an aurora borealisI’ve ever seen. When I showed this in our virtual bullpen, the unanimous reaction was complete awe.

Auroras emit light because of the emission of photons by oxygen and nitrogen atoms in the upper atmosphere. Those atoms get excited—or ionized—by the collision with solar wind particles, which are accelerated by the Earth’s magnetic field. As the atoms get excited or return to their normal state, they emit visible energy. When it is an oxygen atom, the light emitted is either green or brownish-red, depending on the energy level absorbed by the molecule. Blue happens when nitrogen gets ionized, and red when it returns to ground state.

It was photographed by Ole Christian Salomonsen over Tromsø, Norway, using long exposure. That’s why you can see streaks from satellites and an airplane crossing the firmament.

Bono and his wife did not only appear in the latest Louis Vuitton campaign, now the French luxury brand and their own eco friendly brand Edun have collaborated on the Keepall 45 Travel Duffle Bag. It comes in a brown colorway with some nice added details. All proceeds of the sale of the bags (the bag goes for 4′900 USD) go to the Conservation Cotton Initiative. CCI advocates the development of eco-friendly, organic cotton farming to improve incomes and increase economic growth. Via Acquire.

A SUNDAY DRIVE with Ken Block

by  • September 19, 2010 • Did You See This?

Shot just south of Paris, France in Linas at l’Autodrome de Linas –Montlhéry, this 1.58 mile oval track, built in 1924, features banks as steep as 51 degrees, which is more than double the standard incline of most NASCAR ovals. Chosen by Ken for this specific reason, the ramp-like banking proved to be a unique and exciting challenge. The driving physics for the stunts performed were totally unknown until Ken Block attempted the maneuvers during filming.

    It’s an Illusion

To achieve the most natural looking hair color you must have contrast. If you look at a kid with natural hair color and part it in half… their roots and the hair underneath is always a darker shade compared to the ends. It’s an illusion…via www.boxno216.com
