Job Description
CIBC Innovation Banking is a full-service business that delivers strategic advice and funding to North American technology and innovation clients at each stage of their business cycle, from start up to IPO and beyond. With 12 offices in Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, London, Menlo Park, Montreal, New York, Reston, Toronto and Vancouver, the Innovation Banking team builds long-term relationships with management teams and financial sponsors across the US and Canada by investing time to get to know each business. They leverage CIBC’s experience to structure credit and banking solutions to meet the unique needs of technology companies at all stages of development, as well as investing in Canadian and US-based venture capital and growth equity funds.
Job Purpose
The Commercial Banking Innovation Banker Technology Associate’s primary responsibilities will be participating in all aspects of the investment process, from initial screening and due diligence, through approval and post-investment monitoring. The role will encompass a wide-range of North American private and public life science companies.
Key Accountabilities
Assessing investment opportunities in the Technology sectors (software, hardware, IT Services)
Performing deal evaluation, due diligence, industry / company analysis and financial modeling, as well as supporting the investment team.
Monitoring market trends and closely tracking the tech portfolio to assess and manage risk.
Maintain and develop client relationships, exploring opportunities to provide additional credit and non-credit services.
Seek to become trusted advisor through regular client contact and relationship building.
Cross-Functional Relationships
Partners with trading, risk, and other teams across the firm to enhance CIBC’s functional capabilities.
Effectively foster client and market relationships.
Collaborate and engage with CIBC operational and cash management counterparts to ensure optimal client experience
Knowledge And Skills
At least 0-3 years of professional work experience
Experience in healthcare, investment banking, consulting, or industry experience is a plus.
Understanding of US regulatory system for medical devices, diagnostics, and pharmaceuticals.
Strong analytical insight and spreadsheet modeling skills, as well as a complete understanding of financial statements and principles of accounting.
Self-starter with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and to work independently.
Good communication, interpersonal & team skills. Comfortable with working in a cross-border, multi-cultural team-based environment.
Must be highly motivated, perseverant and resilient in pursuing objectives despite challenges.
Strong negotiating, relationship management and sales skills.
Possess mature business judgment and be proactive, well organized and results-oriented.
Must have ability to travel as needed.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $80,000- $115,000for the New York, NY market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component. CIBC offers a full range of benefits and programs to meet our employee’s needs; including Medical, Dental, Vision, Health Savings Account, Life Insurance, Disability, and Other Insurance Plans, Paid Time Off (including Sick Leave, Parental Leave, and Vacation), Holidays, and 401(k), in addition to other special perks reserved for our team members.
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. Additional total compensation and benefits details will be provided during the hiring process.
