JOB SUMMARY

The Environmental Compliance Coordinator (ECC) is responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, reporting, training and recordkeeping of environmental and waste management procedures and activities throughout the MER Family of Companies. The ECCC performs a variety of reporting and administrative duties, particularly in the areas of waste storage, transportation and disposal. This position will support and, in many cases, share responsibilities with the Waste Compliance Program Manager. The ECC is expected to travel 10%-25%.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND WASTE PROGRAM

Manages waste generation, transportation, and storage program including but not limited to:

  • Ensuring the environmental and waste policies are up to date with accurate information and compliant with regulations
  • Coordinating, tracking and auditing of waste characterization/profiling process
  • Auditing waste generation, transportation, and storage activities
  • Oversee the application of the waste profiling and manifest preparation feature of MAST; manual preparation of specialized forms as necessary
  • Conducting periodic audits of proper preparation and reconciliation of shipping-related documents
  • Implementing an auditing program and ensuring liability assessments of all TSDF’s utilized by the company are performed
  • Working with the Company’s Waste Compliance Program Manager and Training Manager to develop and deliver training associated with waste management
  • Working with local management to maintain compliance with regulatory and client-required waste reporting
  • Providing technical assistance with transportation and disposal of Hazardous and Non-hazardous waste
  • Improving existing processes and communicates changes to those impacted
  • Researching opportunities for benefits associated with improved environmental compliance (ex: tax credits, sustainability impacts etc.)

Manages all databases associated with the environmental and waste program including but not limited to:

  • Ensuring users have appropriate access to databases and know how to use the system
  • Ensuring data in the databases is current and accurate
  • Working with the Waste Compliance Program Manager and web developer to update platform with innovative features designed to provide best solution for process improvement

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS PROGRAM

  • Act as Hazmat SME (Subject Matter Expert) to support the compliant, safe, timely and cost-effective transportation of Hazardous Materials
  • Oversee the storage of all Hazmat to ensure compliance with applicable regulations (EPA, OSHA, etc.)
  • Work with Company’s Training Manager to create and conduct Hazmat trainings to ensure safety and compliance
  • Act as Hazmat SME to respond to any Hazmat violations or incidents

SPECIAL PROJECTS

  • May provide special project support to associated departments

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum 3-5 years of environmental/waste management experience
  2. Proficient in RCRA and DOT regulations
  3. Experience with regulatory and/or other statutory compliance and administration preferred
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet and other basic office applications
  5. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines
  6. Familiarity with software programs for waste management
  7. Proficient in RCRA, DOT, EPA and applicable state regulations
  8. Strong communication/interpersonal skills

EDUCATION PREFERENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field required
  2. CHMM, CHMP or similar designation required
