Job Duties:

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Design
  • Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts (SMEs) to design engaging, high-quality in-person, online and hybrid courses.
  • Develop instructional strategies, course materials, and assessments aligned with learning objectives and best practices.
  • Evaluate and implement new tools, technologies, and pedagogical approaches, including AR/VR and AI applications.
  • Ensure accessibility and usability of instructional materials for diverse learners.
  • Conduct research and pilot emerging technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Maintain and improve instructional solutions based on feedback and evaluation data.
Instructor Support & Training
  • Provide consultation and training to faculty and staff on instructional design, online pedagogy, and technology integration.
  • Develop and deliver professional development modules and resources.
  • Support instructors in creating accessible, standards-aligned course materials.
Project Management & Innovation
  • Lead and manage multiple instructional design projects simultaneously.
  • Contribute to departmental initiatives focused on quality improvement and innovation.
  • Stay informed of trends in instructional design, accessibility, and educational technology.
Required Skills and Competencies

Hard Skills
  • Proficiency in design and video software including Kaltura, Canva, and Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Photoshop).
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS for instructional content customization.
  • Experience with Canvas LMS.
  • Ability to evaluate and implement emerging technologies such as AR/VR and AI in instructional design.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards and tools for inclusive course design.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize files and manage instructional content efficiently across platforms.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Analyzes, tests, troubleshoots, resolves issues, and provides feedback regarding learning technologies
  • Provides support for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and disseminating data to identify instructional program needs and enhance effectiveness
  • Assists with the design and development of multimedia learning materials
  • Provides support for faculty development and engagement programs and activities
  • Assists with the design and development of engaging, effective learning experiences which may be face-to-face, blended, and/or online
  • Completes initial edits, reviews, and updates of existing instructional materials
  • Provides consultation, training, and/or support for learning technology tools and platforms
  • Contributes to researching, designing, and/or acquiring learning resources, technologies, materials, and/or processes to support learning
  • Assists with providing basic training and technical support to learners in settings such as classrooms, labs, clinics, and distance learning mediums
Department:

The instructional design program at the University of Wisconsin-Stout is a comprehensive, faculty-centered initiative that supports teaching across all modalities-online, hybrid, and in-person. Its purpose is to enhance instructional quality through collaborative course design, integration of emerging technologies like AI and VR, and personalized consultations for faculty development.

Compensation:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, instructional technology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in online or XR instructional design.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to develop practical, learner-focused resources.
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in instructional design or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in instructional design, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience designing accessibility and familiarity with accessibility standards.
  • Knowledge of Canvas LMS and other learning technologies.
  • Experience with AR/VR, AI, or other emerging technologies in education.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to lead initiatives from start to finish.
