Position Summary: The Instructional Designer supports Gateway’s online education program by managing the development and maintenance of high-quality online courses. Responsibility relates to all courses offered fully online for credit and does not include direct responsibility for hybrid courses supervised by a local campus dean or director. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are considered essential to the job. With or without reasonable accommodation, qualified individuals must have the ability to: Manage online course development projects from beginning to end, including the preparation, planning, production, and post-production stages. Work closely with Subject Matter Experts (i.e., instructors) to design effective, pedagogically sound online course content. Promote continuous improvement of the online learning experience for both students and instructors. Establish course evaluation methods and conduct regular reviews of online courses to ensure instructional effectiveness and alignment with Gateway Online’s quality standards rubric. Explore, assess, and recommend new educational technologies and instructional design strategies to enhance online education. Provide training and support for online instructors in the use of educational technologies as needed. Import and edit online curriculum prior to the start of each semester. Communicate with faculty regarding course developments and updates to ensure online course curriculum is ready for students each semester. Provide training and support for online instructors in the use of the Learning Management System (LMS) and assembling course elements, including files, quizzes, videos, assignments, gradebook setup, and educational technologies. Maintain and manage the LMS, including course setup, troubleshooting, and user support. Create course content and interactive learning objects using web-based programming languages such as HTML, CSS, H5P, jQuery, and JavaScript (where deemed appropriate). Apply design principles to various learning resources and course assets by utilizing tools such as PowerPoint, infographics, and video. Maintain and manage a database of online course evaluation results, identifying opportunities for improvement or redevelopment. Maintain and manage a database of online learning objects (Learning Object Repository). Collaborate with the Director of Online Education to design and maintain on-site studio for video production. Schedule and assist in preparation of the studio for professor recordings and video creation. Collaborate with team members across the organization to expand the use of online educational technologies. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and/or Experience: The minimum requirements for this position is a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) from four-year college or university in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Graphic Design/Videography, or related educational/instructional field, with two years of experience in instructional design. A Master’s degree (or higher) in Bible, Theology, or related field, with a minimum of three years of experience in instructional design and/or project management is preferred. Skills: Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak and perform effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Software: Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, etc.
