Position Summary

The Controller will oversee all accounting and financial operations for our plastic manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for managing the company’s financial reporting, budgeting, and cost accounting functions while ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies. The Controller will play a key role in driving financial accuracy, supporting operational efficiency, and providing management with data-driven insights to guide decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the company’s accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes; prepare financial statements and management reports in accordance with GAAP.
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting systems specific to manufacturing, including tracking material usage, labor, and overhead.
  • Analyze production costs, variances, and profitability by product line or customer to support pricing and operational decisions.
  • Partner with operations to monitor inventory levels, scrap, rework, and production efficiency; ensure accurate inventory valuation.
  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process; provide variance analysis and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and compliance reporting with external auditors and regulatory agencies.
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all financial tasks.
  • Support leadership in evaluating capital expenditures, cash flow management, and long-term strategic planning.
  • Identify and drive process improvements, automation, and efficiency within financial and operational systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a manufacturing or industrial environment (plastics experience strongly preferred).
  • Solid understanding of cost accounting, inventory control, and manufacturing operations.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Epicor, NetSuite, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective leadership and communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and management teams.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience with raw material pricing (resins, additives, etc.) and margin analysis.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
