Job Description

Seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support K-12 students in an educational setting located in New Orleans, LA. This contract position is available for the current school year (CSY) and requires expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) to facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa to ensure clear communication for deaf or hard-of-hearing students
  • Collaborate with educators to provide accessible instruction and support classroom activities
  • Assist students in developing communication skills and accessing the full curriculum
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional standards in all interactions
  • Attend relevant meetings, trainings, and IEP sessions as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language with interpreting certification
  • Experience working in a K-12 educational environment
  • Strong understanding of classroom dynamics and learning styles of deaf or hard-of-hearing students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt to various educational settings and student needs
