Job Description
Our school is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) who will also serve as a paraprofessional in our specialized classroom setting. This dual role supports both speech-language services under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and provides direct instructional and behavioral support to students with diverse learning needs.
Key Responsibilities:
As an SLPA:
Implement documented speech-language programs and activities developed by the supervising SLP.
Assist in providing direct therapy to students individually and in small groups.
Document student progress and provide data to the supervising SLP.
Assist with speech and language informal assessments.
Prepare materials and assist with scheduling and clerical tasks related to speech services.
Support in the programming of AAC devices in collaboration with the supervising SLP
Follow all state and federal regulations and professional standards of practice.
As a Paraprofessional:
Support students in the classroom with academic, behavioral, and social-emotional tasks.
Implement teacher-designed instruction and modifications/accommodations.
Assist with classroom management and facilitate inclusive learning opportunities.
Support students with personal care needs as required.
Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and other activities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Associate's degree or higher in a related field required.
Completion of a state-approved SLPA training program or equivalent.
Valid SLPA license or certification (or eligibility to obtain).
Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Qualities:
Passion for supporting students with speech, language, and communication needs.
Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
Flexible, patient, and a team player.
Bilingual or multicultural experience a plus.
Reports To:
Speech-Language Pathologist (for SLPA duties)
Special Education Teacher / School Administrator (for paraprofessional duties)
