• WAVE POOL MADNESS

    by  • December 4, 2007

For years engineers have struggled to create surfable, artificial waves (wave pools), the most popular being Typhoon Lagoon in Florida. Most of the time their attempts have yielded relentlessly gutless and mushy waves, that are hardly high performance. There lately has been talk that some engineers have found a way to create waves pools that produce fast and hollow waves. Surf Parks LLC http://www.surfparks.com/home.php has been claiming that they will create real waves to be released at an Orlando, FL park in 2006. We are almost in 08 and they’re test models are weak. But once again it looks like Japan beat us to the punch. For surfers this is a dream come true — hollow, powerful waves in an controlled environment. Just imagine having one of these in your backyard.

Burton Encourages Snowboarders To ‘Sabotage Stupidity’

    by  • December 3, 2007

There’s still four ski resorts left in the United States that hate snowboarders and refuse to let their kind on the slopes. Burton, clearly unhappy with this, decided to created a contest that is sure to wreak havoc for skiers. Their “Poach for Freedom” challenge encourages riders and crews to let loose on these ski only resorts and promises $5000 to the best video footage documenting the transgressions. Whether for legal reasons or to make people do a little investigation, they don’t mention the four anti-snowboarding resorts, but we do:

    O’Neill H4 Campack

    by  • November 26, 2007

The O’Neill H4 Campack is designed to be used as a fully functional snowboard backpack with the addition of an integrated portable media player and external camera lens.
With ease-of-use lying at the heart of the H4 Campack, the wearer is able to start and stop recording almost effortlessly by pressing a large button positioned on the left shoulder strap. There is most probably no better way to film freestyle and freeride snowboarding action.
The portable media player is positioned in the backpack’s top pocket safely stored between protective padding. The media player records all the action captured by the goggle strap or helmet mounted camera lens. For instant review on the mountain slope, open the top pocket and check your action via the media player’s screen. For sharing or Internet upload, take out the SD card which is used for video storage and copy the videos to a laptop.
Definitely a pretty nice idea and actually something that makes sense. The O’Neill H4 Campack will soon be available at the Colette online store.
